Hartford Seminary Webinar: Muslim and Christian Responses to White Supremacy and Xenophobia
With fellow colleagues of the Building Bridges Seminar, Westcott House’s Director of Studies, Dr Beth Phillips, participated in an event hosted by Hartford Seminary’s Macdonald Centre for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations for an examination of root causes of and religious resources for addressing white supremacy and xenophobia.
In a 90-minute webinar, the panel addressed current social realities of race and xenophobia which have been rarely acknowledged by a white dominant Christian culture – drawing upon Macdonald Centre affiliate Lucinda Mosher’s edited volume A World of Inequalities: Christian and Muslim Perspectives (Georgetown University Press, 2021). Panelists Dr Phillips and Dr Ovamir Anjum are contributors to the book, which arose from the 2018 meeting of Building Bridges in Sarajevo.
